Icewater Spring vía Appalachian Trail- Great Smoky Mountains National Park

This is a great trail if you want a taste of the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies and are short on time. It starts from Newfound Gap overlook parking lot and heads north on the AT. There are a few great views and you’ll see a typical shelter.

This trail stays very icy in winter and microspikes are recommended.

It’s a great trail to see snow in winter as it lasts longer in these elevations. It’s a favorite of mine.

About 6.2 miles round trip , with approximately 1300 feet elevation gain
