Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park is a striking area of colorful travertine terraces formed by hot water dissolving limestone and depositing calcium carbonate as it cools. The constantly changing formations create an otherworldly landscape of steaming pools, intricate steps, and vibrant mineral hues. It’s also home to historic Fort Yellowstone, where early park management was headquartered.
