I did a section of the Cumberland Trail in January- Black mountain to Ozone Falls. It was snowing when we started and socked on with clouds so I have no photo from the Black mountain overlook. About 2 miles from Ozone Falls we hear grunts. Looked over to the right and see a few large wild pigs running around. They didn’t bother us but I tell you I’m completely mortified by wild pigs!
The Cumberland trail is always a challenging one , very remote but very beautiful.
Our small group of 3 did not see any other hikers before we got to the waterfall

Though Knoxville was closer to many great hiking opportunities in the Smokies, I’ve now lived on the Cumberland Plateau for the last 21 months and enjoy the terrain here, as well. In fact, this hike you’ve described is where I live – Renegade Mountain – situated between Ozone Falls and Black Mountain. Thanks for sharing, dear Andrea 🙂
