Our hike to Rockwell Falls in Glacier National Park started on one of those days when it couldn’t decide whether to rain or just stay misty. Either way, we were getting wet.
We hiked through Two Medicine Valley with the mountains partly hidden by clouds. I would’ve loved a clear day, but the mist looked pretty cool out there. It was quiet, too, except for our group talking as we walked.
Then we saw a moose.

We all stopped and watched from a distance. I always hope I’ll see wildlife when I’m hiking in Glacier, but it still caught me off guard. For a few minutes, nobody was in much of a hurry to get to the waterfall.
We did eventually make it to Rockwell Falls, and I’m glad we did. It was a great spot to reach after walking in the rain. But if you ask me what I remember most about that hike, it’s probably the moose and all of us standing there in our rain jackets trying to take in what we were seeing.

I’d happily hike to Rockwell Falls again. Maybe next time I’ll get some sunshine. But I wouldn’t trade this particular day for it.
