Charlie’s Bunion, GSMNP

The hike to Charlie’s bunion on the Appalachian Trail from Newfound Gap is one of my all time favorite hikes.  It is 8 miles round trip.  Amazing views on this one!

This is the view from the parking lot at Newfound Gap where the hike starts from. Newfound Gap is the border of North Carolina and Tennessee.

The entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine is marked by white blazes.

Views from Charles Bunion, which is the destination for this hike.  Charlies Bunion is a large boulder like protrusion just below the summit on its otherwise sheer northern face. The mountain is a rare instance of a bare rock summit in the Smokies. Summits in the Smokies are usually balds, or covered in trees.
